Greetings!
As President of BFSA, I hope you read this letter in good health and spirits. It's truly an
honor to lead a vibrant group of intellectuals driven to increase and sustain African American
students, faculty and staff. In doing so, it's my pleasure to announce a joint initiative between
the Center for Student Progress and BFSA focusing on the retention of African American students.
The venture is in the formative stage but it's our desire to see it come to fruition at the onset
of Fall 2009 semester.
BFSA is making a measurable difference in welcoming Dr. Patrick Spearman, who will begin teaching
the upcoming Fall semester, to The Beeghly College of Education in which we were invited and directly
involved in the interviewing process. Of course, we cannot take sole credit for Dr. Spearman,
therefore we would like to commend Dean Dr. Philip Ginnetti for displaying his comment to diversifying
his staff; also, special thanks to Dr. James Pusch, who chaired the committee, for inviting BFSA to
the table.
In efforts of extending BFSA to YSU and our community, we would hope you'll be in attendance for
a forum on the "100 Days of Obama Presidency" in Debartolo Hall Rm. 132 on the campus of YSU,
April 30th, 2009 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Panelist will be:
- Mayor Jay Williams of Youngstown
- Clifford Scott, Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority
- Jim Graham, United Auto Workers 1112
- Molly Seals, Senior VP Humility of Mary
- Dr. Paul Carr, Author and Professor of Education at YSU
- Dr. Keith Lepak, Professor of Political Science at YSU
- Veronika Dolar, Ph.D. Candidate of Economics at CSU
Sincerely,
Hasheen A. Wilson, President
YSU BFSA
